Oesophageal Manometry

Oesophageal Manometry is a procedure that measures the function of the oesophagus. This is performed in our rooms. The procedure involves measuring the contractions of the oesophagus and the function of the oesophageal sphincters.

It involves the placement of a catheter through the nose into the oesophagus. Topical anaesthetic (Lidocaine spray) is administered prior to commencing the procedure which decreases sensations in the nose and in the back of the mouth.
