Colonoscopy

A colonoscopy is an Endoscopic procedure performed in hospital under sedation. It is a day procedure. A flexible camera is placed via the rectum into the colon. Carbon Dioxide is used to inflate the colon so the internal lining of the colon can be seen from the rectum, all the way through to the right side of the colon and often into the first part of the small bowel.
